一台没有任何用途的机器，用极高的精度，反复处理不需要被处理的东西：割掉一根韭菜的尖端再丢掉，把五颗豆子倒进盒子里，把一片树叶洗到 99.8%，把一颗豆子反复称三次，把两个方块摆到相距 0.008 毫米，然后分开。

每一个循环都以八个阶段完整展开：唤醒、联锁、就位、校准、执行、复检、处理、复位。每一个循环结束时，世界回到开始的样子。唯一的例外是那 0.09 克——它被切下，被丢进废料口，不可撤销。

你不按开关的时候，它也不会停：总有两条产线在彼此错开的空转里自娱自乐，像没人看管的机器在练习呼吸。你的全部劳动，仍然只是选择一个程序，然后拨动开关。机器替你完成其余的一切，并交给你一份记录。记录是这台机器唯一的产品，也是它唯一会累积的东西。

An apparatus with no use, applied with extreme precision to things that do not need to be handled. Eight stages, forty-three seconds, and the world returns to its prior state — except for the 0.09 grams that were cut away and cannot be restored. Even untouched, it keeps turning: two lines always idling against each other. You choose a program. You flip a switch. The machine does the rest, and hands you a record. The record is the only thing that accumulates.
